IN Jan this year, while off ill with a sheath infection, my boy somehow got a bone chip in his *near hind* fetlock.
Vet thought it was tendon so box rest and cold hose = little improvement.
Went for xrays, found the bone chip, vet did not want to medicate the joint, instead prescribed supplement, box rest and bandaging as pastern was still swollen.
Came back into work 5 weeks ago, starting with handwalking ( sound ) then ridden work for 2 weeks, then trot.. then after 5 weeks of rehabbing, vet gave him the all clear. We started turnout in a small restriced area of his field. That was wednesday 2 weeks ago.
He made it a week sound (no increase in work btw and absoloutely no field shenanigans! ) and now hes gone lame again
So weds - vet saw him ridden, confirmed lame behind.
thurs - stuck head over door, remarked on puffiness of left hind, said we would medicate (hooray!)
fri - doped, started preparing the foot, but then decided he was lame on his *off hind* . there was no trotup, this is just what the vet thinks he remembers from weds.
Im now mega confused. From everything ive read, HA should have been done to startm and possibly surgury. But i didnt question is because Vet Knows Best. Thing is, its been 5 months and his near hind *still* doesnt look good to me. There is no sign of any issues with the off-hind at all. The vet said it was distended on the thurs, but he definitely checked the near hind, not the off hind. I check his legs every night - there was absoloutely no distension of the tendon of his off-hind.
So vet wants to do a full lameness workup on Monday...
Confused yet?
Hes a really nice vet who has been really good with my horse, and i dont want to upset anyone, but i think i need a second opinion?
So guys is this normal for vets?
