I am currently awaiting a call back from my vet - but in the meantime - has anyone come across anything like this before as I am completely baffled.

Horse walks/trots/canter/gallops/jumps happily and completely sound. Trots up on soft and hard ground completely sound (in straight lines). Lunge tests on sand (on a circle obviously) completely sound.
Lunge tests on concrete - very lame

Any ideas gratefully received!

Lunge tests on concrete show up mild lameness more severely, or if your horse is lame on both front legs it may only show as a shortening of stride in other situations.

Has your horse become more reluctant to go forwards, or tend to jump a fence and hesitate in the air b4 landing? If so, may be early signs of a problem.

If it is an older horse, may just be early signs of arthritis or one of the dejenerative bone diseases. I would be less worried if your horse is over 14 as this is usually a very early sign of something if they are completely sound elsewhere.

Glad to hear you are getting the vet out!
