I just wondered if someone could please interpret the following class information for me please?

Class 1: Preliminary W
Definition: BD Prelim Test 12
Restrictions: BD: Prelim Open & Restricted
Qualifier(s): Manor Grange Stud Championships
Entry Fee: £15.00
Notes: Prizes MGS Saddlery vouchers po.
Winter Qualifier

Class 2: Preliminary W
Definition: BD Prelim Test 14
Restrictions: BD: Prelim Open & Restricted
Qualifier(s): Manor Grange Stud Championships
Entry Fee: £15.00
First Prize: £15.00
Notes: Winter Qualifier

I'm not a member of BD just yet and am wondering if I can enter the following classes as a non-member and if so whether I would need a class ticket? If no ticket is needed am I allowed to enter both or just one?
And what does the 'W' mean after the class name - is that to tell you it's a winter qualifier - and does that therefore mean it's a qualifier for the Winter Regionals or just for the Manor Grange championship??
Sorry so many questions!!

'w' means it is just a 'winter' class, WQ means 'winter qualifier.

You dont need to be a member or get a ticket to do Prelim, you just download an entry form from the BD site and off you go

You can enter both of those classes with out a ticket as prelim classes non members can compete in without being a member or having a ticket.

They are BD winter classes but not BD winter qualifers. The second class is a qualifer for the Manor Grange championships.

Hope that helps somewhat.

Echo Tempi, but if you want to qualify for the Prelim Championships, then you will need to be a member of BD and your horse have a Prelim ID (which is free). If that isn't of interest to you then you don't need to do anything but enter!!

It looks from that entry as if the class will be split into Open and Restricted.

The Restricted Prelim will be a Winter Qualifier and is therefore only open to BD Members in Groups 7 & 8 or non members riding on a class ticket.

The Open Prelim is open to anyone, including non members and does not qualify for the Regionals.

As they are running both sections, there is no point in using a ticket, so you can go ahead and enter the Open.

thank you.. in the end i spoke to the secretary as I had to let her know it was a late entry, and as I was planning on joining BD anyway she told me to put 'applied for' in the membership section and she will put me in the restricted section. So that's what I've done

You dont need to be a member to compete BD Prelim level however if you are not a member you can't compete in the restricted (ie for rider groups 7 and 8) section to qualify. You have to compete in the open section. If you are a member and rider group 7/8 you can compete in the Restricted section but if you qualify for the Regionals your horse has to be registered to be able to compete.

BD have done away with Prelim ID no's.

I may be wrong on this but I thought that you are eligible for prizes/placings whether you are/are not a member - however if you are competing a horse on a ticket and are not a member it won't show up in the official BD results Database.

Its quite confusing trying to interpret their rules sometimes!!!

If you are competing in a ticket in any class, you are eligible for rosettes and prize money, but not for points or qualifications.

As far as prelim goes, if you're competing in the Open section for non members, then it is a straightforward section so you are eligible for the rosettes as normal - and prize money, if any.

Yes, Prelim IDs were abandoned. Even though there was no charge, the prospect of having to fill in a form seemed to put off a large number of people.

Shame really as, if all Prelim horses were registered in some way, then the results could be shown on the database. All the time it is optional, then that's not going to happen.

There may not be points, but the class results could still be shown.
In novice and higher if the winner was on 58% and 2nd & 3rd were obviously on lower the section results would still be shown but no points would have been awarded (unlikely ever to happen but its possible!)
