I think this past few weeks has thrown up rather a few great achievements for many people on here with achievements being seen across the board with British Bred youngstock. So I just wanted to post a few of those achievements on here - anyone who has anymore please feel free to add. Suffice to say i think that no matter what others say we are collectively heading in the right direction.....

1. I have already congratulated Endrete on Lakanto's success at the futurity yesterday but didn't also mention her other colt who went on the Thursday. Her colt foal Bonafide Allusion by Future Illusion out of a Rock King mare received a Higher First Premium as an eventing foal.

2. Brendon Stud have been having OUTSTANDING success with their 6 yr old homebred mare Sussex Caretino (Caretino Glory x Hamilton III x Tropic Star) - on Thursday she came 3rd in the Breeders Championships at Hickstead being the youngest in the class and beaten by older horses. She has also this season won all the major 6 yr old Champs around adding them to her 5 yr old titles. Not bred by them but produced from scratch before being sold, their old stallion Warrior has also been officially selected for London 2012.

3. Found out this week that Eleda All Black....a BRITISH BRED horse by Dalcotes (on here) Stud's Kings Composer has been selected for London 2012 for the Brazilian eventing team!

and last but DEFINITELY not least
4. HUGE CONGRATS to Woodlander on Farouche today winning the 6yr old Int Dressage Final ay Hickstead with what can only be seen as a world record score of 99.6% WHAT a mare and what a rider!!!

SEE....British breeders and horses can do it!

Well done for highlighting this! Definately need to be able to sing our own praises a lot more! Modesty has a place but not around here at the moment thanks!

Hear hear. Well said eventrider.
We are perfectly able to breed fantastic performance horses here in Britain and just need the riders to get behind us and realise shopping abroad is not necessary. I think we all need to shout a bit louder about the quality to be found at home, rather than watch as horses are imported from the continent that the country of breeding are happy to send here. The best are rarely sold abroad, the big breeders, particularly of dressage horses breed in such huge numbers to ensure a chance of breeding the elite, they are comfortable doing so in the knowledge that the less than superb will be easily sold over here on the strength of their breeding and name of stud. Who is it that's daft, not them for sure.
Sad that some folk think that bred in Germany or holland, despite the fact that a german or Dutch rider hasn't snapped them up is superior to a top quality British bred.

We really do need to start celebrating what we are breeding as whilst of course there is a larger volume of these top bred horses coming through from the continent due to the numbers being bred, we here are proving that we can make the decisions to breed horses that are just as good and going to the same levels.

A few other achievements are Millfield Stud who have an amazing record through the BEF futurity (and I have to say the most gorgeous Balou baby that got an Elite last week) as well as an amazing record with colts passing their stallion licensing plus some of their homebreds competing at Hickstead this week. All bred in the UK and I think we will see lots more to come.

Camrose Stud has bred the most amazing stallion in Sir Cisco who is not only a COLOURED WB but is performance tested in Germany....and was I believe 6th in the eventing Bundeschampionat final....an unheard of achievement for a British bred farless coloured stallion.

Ben Maher and Triple X - the first horse (I think) Ben bred and now set to jump in London.

Sultan V - Bred by Old Lodge Stud and produced by Bruce Menzies and set to also jump at London now jumping for the Saudi team.

Then of course there are the Billy horses....it would be too numerous to name all the successes so far but needless to say they are putting themselves in the limelight!

There are likely far more results I have missed but these highlights are really showing what our british breds are doing!

Another excellent thread Jane!

We should have more of these - 'naming and praising' and encouraging the British breeders who are getting it right!

Especially the small breeders like Endrete, who are breeding top-scoring foals from just one or two nice mares, using British stallions.

In principle, I have always felt that patriotism has no place in breeding: the point is to breed the best possible horses and nationality should be irrelevant. BUT I now see that there can be a problem with over-estimating the quality of imported stock and under-estimating our home-grown talent.

We may not be producing the sheer quantity of sport horses as the Continental breeders, but looking at Jane's recent examples and many earlier ones, the quality is excellent, and improving all the time.

Perhaps that should be our motto: 'Quality, Not Quantity'?:)

Ah Kate, according to their website quality not quantity is the aim of another small British stud who have foaled a son of your boy tobago

Tobago is certainly producing some excellent stock from top quality mares. Two other colts in particular are superb, sparks and Eddie are both serious prospects for future eventing.
I would love to see British breeders gaining more recognition. There is no need for over production on huge levels to breed the quality sporting horse of the future.

Super thread Eventrider23 it is sometimes overlooked that we are producing quality horses in the UK.

I would also just like to give a mention to Brendon Stud, as today their wonderful stallion Don VHP Z came 4th in the King George Gold Cup at Hickstead. What an achievement considering he only stepped up to 1.50 classes this year.

Not in same league of these but am bursting with pride today as found out the 3 yr old event bred filly my friend & I bred by Catherston Dazzler out of our ISH broodmare (by Kilteally Spring) won 3 national final classes at the Trailblazers national final this weekend, was pulled forward into the final selection of 10 from all class winners, one of only 2 in hand horses to make this stage. Not bad for a young girl against mature horses! So proud of her owner who has produced her the past 6 months & our baby girl, Kc Double Dazzle, very definately british bred (made in Devon;)! :D:D:D

(Her as yearling in avatar)

Fantastic results today for pony breeders Bathleyhills Stud at Arena UK and their wonderful pony stallion Bathleyhills Monet. What a wonderful stallion, at only 4 he has taken the series by storm and quite rightly so.

Yes its been a great couple of years for British breeding, can I add the Stallion Franklyn Sugar (Fuerst Heinrich-same sire as Farouche) British bred was 3rd at the Hickstead 6yr old National Champs and this was even more exceptional as he had only been back under saddle 10 days after having a very busy summer spent standing at stud. Also his first ever foal, a filly out of a Lux Z mare received a high first premium at Myerscough Futurity with a vet score of 9 in the same week. So Well done to everyone promoting British breeding, and leading on from another thread, my British bred stallion has BWS papers and so do his foals even though eligible for so called fancier stud books, Ive just registered all my 2012 foals with BWS. Im will promote BB every step of the way

You can indeed, he is a wonderful stallion congratulations, three cheers for British Breeders :D

Thanks for comments on my girl and boy! Tropique [Hamilton Tropics x Catherston Dazzler] also won at Hickstead with Gemma Tattersall. Sebastian's First [Sebastian x Special Graf] and My Squire Caretino [Caretino Glory x Samson Esquire] also qualified for the main arena in the Winter Novice. Also Joe Clayton's ride in the King George -Mr Darcy is also British bred [bred by Jez Neilson] Billy Balou qualified Hoys Foxhunter final and Diamonte Darco [by Unbelievable Darco] was 7th in qualifier. Keith Doyle won the Queens on his homebred Walk Tall [Kannan]

When we start seeing what we can do, and remember what we have done, we will go forwards on our own steam, with our own values, instead of relying on our continential cousins judgements. Take the best that they do, sure, throw out the worst, and lets not just try and be a clone of them.

Lets listen to the well established experts, and let them listen back to us as well.

Well done, and thanks for putting that info out there, and reminging us why we are "Great"

Also massive congratulations to Billy Stud's Cevin Z! Not only is he producing class jumpers such as Valetto JX, Billy Balou, Billy Mexico, Billy Cevelle (and all the rest!!) He will also be represented in top flight eventing by his daughter Borough Penny Z in the London 2012 Olympics. What a fantastic sire!

Brilliant time to be British Breeders with the likes of Brendon Stud, Billy Stud, (and of course numerous other stallion owners) which put all these fab horses under our noses. We are certainly heading in the right direction!

I'm sure we will all be behind our team over the coming days, let's all hope they come home safe, sound and successful.

So sorry ribbons - only just seen your post here! Thank you very much for these kind thoughts about Tobago's offspring. He is lucky that British breeders are so willing to try something different, rather than just following the herd!

I think that independent spirit is another quality that deserves praise.;)
