plz can anyone help?
my pony is being treated for conjunctivitis and has been on chloromycetin for five days and it hasnt made any difference !!! his eye is still shut and watering !!!

I would call out a vet, if you have already then call him out again. If the eye is shut its a sign of pain. When my horse had conjunctivitis it cleared up with drops in a couple of days but i still carried on with the treatment. Give him some bute if you have any that may help. Don't put anything in your ponies eye thats not been prescribed by your vet. You could also bathe with salt water. Good luck.

ditto. Speak to your vet tomorrow. My old pony used to suffer from it in the summer and it always cleared up within a few days. It certainly doesnt sound straightforward.

Jcrw - you need to get the vet out again pronto. It might just be a fly/hot weather thing but eyes are so very precious and any eye infection/injury/disease needs to be tackled very fast. How are you getting the drops in his eyes if they are tight shut and watering all the time? It might be that you aren't actually getting enough/any of the medication into the eye. Did the vet show you how to SAFELY do this? Getting drops/ointment into a horse's eye can be a real challenge. If the tube has a sharp pointy end, one wrong move or jerk by the horse as you hold the tube right next to the eye and you can seriously damage the cornea. Chronic conjunctivitis can sometimes lead to other more serious conditions so you need to get this sorted immediately. If your ned seems unhappy in bright light and is skulking at the back of his stable, it's an emergency.

While you wait for the vet, I'd just gently bathe the eye with plain boiled and cooled water. NOT salt water as believe me it would sting like hell and your chances of ever getting close to your ned's eye again would be zero. As bhw says, a bute sachet would help take the edge off his pain and can't hurt but it's worth repeating - if ned is hiding from bright light, tell the vet when you make the appointment x

We use cold tea, (obviously no milk or sugar : ) ) recomended by out vet. It works a treat, just put a tea bag in hot water leave to cool, and bathe over the eye, twice a day
I've used this on horses, dogs, a duck and a goose! and its worked a treat each and every time.
One dog, that was at a kennels I worked at, came with conjunctvitis, this pus covered the eye, which was glued shut. It really turned my stomach. It had drops but they didnt work, I used the tea and it cleared up in 5 days!
