Barney seems to have it again .. ( why did I get a greyhound?! Lol) is there anyway to treat it myself or is it off to the vets for eye drops like last time? Also how did he get it? Last time he had it he had a stomach infection at the same time ..

I've used Golden eye ointment when one of our dogs had conjunctivitis, it worked well and the eye was looking much better after a couple of days. You can buy it over the counter at boots and think it's only about £5, much cheaper than going to the vet!

I think you can get conjunctivitis for many reasons, bacterial, viral, reactive, could even be an allergic reaction to something?

Let us know how his eye heals :)

Bear's eye was gloopy and closed yesterday-we have three types of drops/ointments, I had to draw up a chart to tick off what had been given and how often! He's a bit gloopy but lots better.

I love Goldeneye and we were given ointment that I bet is the same but also antibiotics. I don't like to mess with eyes, but I used it on me and the horse (separate tubes!) very successfully.

I would never self treat eyes, i had conjunctivitis myself and went to the dr. the medication prescribed made my eyes far far worse, so i had to go back and get another type. had I continued with the wrong ointment I could have caused untold damage. One of my liveries diagnosed conjunctivitis in her horse and was bathing with t bags, and putting in optrex, after 2 days i was seriously concerned and insisted on calling teh vet. the horse had uveitis, and nearly lost its sight. We had to treat every 3 hours for 48 hours, with 3 different creams. luckily we managed to save his eyes. Go to teh vets, far better to have a vet bill than a blind or damaged eye sight in the dog.
