Having read about the acorns earlier - Is it just the conkers that are poisionous to horses, or the leaves and bark as well??

I have cleared all the conkers and assume that the tree/bark is ok as horses have lived in this field for years and years, but just wanted to check!

TIA

Acorns come from oak tress, not conkers.

Haha...yes I *know* that. It was a separate question I would like to know the answer to, but was reminded to ask having read the thread earlier.

I sincerely hope that conkers are not poisionous, as our horses have their haynet tied to a horse chestnut tree every day......

They have been in fields with horse chestnuts for the past 16 years, and have never suffered any ill effects, so I wouldn't have thought so.

The leaves and flowers are fine, I think the sticky buds they have in spring are sweet apparently you can stick them in a salad, so our vet says. I think conkers are toxic though and sadly a colleague's dog did choke to death on one so dangerous from that point of view, yes.
