Ok, so thinking of looking at Connie's, as I love their personality, they are the size, shape and weight I want and I have always liked the breed.

Looking on the net, and there seems a lot of differences with what the breed standard is, as in what height is acceptable. I will mainly be doing dressage, but fancy giving showing a go. I would be looking at getting a 15hh Connie, but would a judge question me or the horse as I have read this is not a standard height. Also, would a pulled and plaited mane be accepted?

Thanks guys xx

Connemara can not be shown in afflitiated Mountain and Moorland breed classes over 14.2, they are not plaited or noticabely pulled.
Over height or part bred animals make good competition horses and show hunter types. If you are buying a Connemara make sure it has the correct BCPS or Irish passport, all ponies are now DNA'd and chipped.

I have just bought a connemara so read up on this as well (not that I plan to show but I wanted to know what all the classes meant). Bear in mind that you can also only show Class 1 connemaras. Size will make a difference on price as well.

Riding horses tend to have a lot of TB blood in them so it is unlikely a giant connie would do well in this class.

A small hunter is a possibility but bear in mind that connies should be pony like so if your overheight connie looks like a giant native pony then they would not necessarily do well in the small hunter class either. however there are some overheight connies coming out of Ireland that are more sports horse like and not very pony like at all and these could make nice small hunters.

Thanks. So if I did get one over 14.2hh I could go in other classes in the show ring such as small hunter or riding horse? Do they have part Connie classes? Like part Arab classes?
