Do they make good crosses?
Anyone have pics of theirs?
smile.gif

Thanks

they are the best crosses imo.
They make the best eventers, in my experience, because they have the speed of the tb and the mind of the connemara - and connies are quick devils as well, not forgetting the jump!

How good have you found them at keeping their weight and condition? I really don't want another skinny TB as it's so much hassle keeping weight on.

does the connemara in them make them better doers?
(Though obviously all horses are different

Havent had much of a problem with them keeping their weight, find they are easy enough, although tend to get a little fat in spring, but there are good doer crosses and bad doer crosses anyways

mine was neither good or poor dooer- slap bang where you want them to be, in the middle!

mine had tb feet and a connie coat.. brilliant presence and jump.

My last horse was a ConniexTB

Lovely mix in my opinion, would have another! Fast, clever, brilliant for jumping - always clear and could make any turn! (helped that she was only 14.3 though!) I miss her so much

No idea what Danny is, some people think he's ConniexTB but quite different in built to Koora, you can make your own mind up!

Mine was amazing....he had the best jump and had never refused a jump in his life and would help you out when you got the striding wrong etc. He used to event intermeadiate.

I would say with the weight it depends on how much of them is connie and how much is TB, I would say Ben was more TB and it was always a struggle to keep weight on him.

Absolutely love that cross - we have one who has TB Mum and Connemara Dad - fantastic nature, turn his hoof to any thing and a real poppet.

Ohh Sol and whizzica your greys are both gorgeous!! whizzica in particular, that's just the type i'd love

MrsM- yep, horse hunt starts AGAIN tomorrow (once my most recent set of exams finish
smile.gif
) although we have to hang on to the loan TB for another three weeks as I stupidly entered a team ODE on him about a month ago, didn't think about how that would work- so I may well be in the situation of having the TB at his yard 25 miles away, and my new horse 5 mins down the road at new yard for a few weeks...I sense my bus pass is about to get a lot more use

My retired girl, Inca, is TB with a bit of Connemara. She had been overjumped when I got her so only used her for hacking before her retirement. I have to say that she's a pretty good doer - she lives out 24/7 with one feed a day (+ loads of hay) and a 300g rug in the deepest of winter.

I don't have many good pics but here is one, she's on the right (with me riding). She's 15.3hh.

I have one - she is wonderful. Quick and honest, a little quirky but brave as anything. Totally easy to do in everyway and quite pony like in many ways (totally driven by food, can be a minx to catch, is a very good doer - just feed Happy Hoof, sugabeet and hay during winter). Had a few problems bonding to start with but she now is beginning to see me as more than just her 'boss' which is nice.

mine is a connie x ID and he is great a bit quirky and can be full of himself but generally hes a star..i imagine that a x tb would be just as good maybe a bit quicker
smile.gif

My first step from ponies to horses was a 14.3 connie x tb and she was amazing. I would have loved another but they were far far too expensive even for a youngster when I was looking last year and very desirable snapped up so quickly and that says it all. They are the best of both worlds

I would def have another one - mine is a bit of a cheeky sod but great personality and will have a go at everything. he wasn't too sure about this wall mind! Lol [image]

We think Suni is a Conni x TB but don't know for sure. She's got a fab jump on her, a bit quirky at times but wouldn't change her and I'd definately have another.

I've got a wonderful little TB x Connie

I've had her 5 and a half years and she's great! Not quite my perfect horse as she isn't very bold and quite spooky, but she's safe enough for my mum to hack her out (she's very nervous and couldn't ride when we bought her), then jump round 1m courses, win showing championships and go out hunting in a bitless with me!

I don't really have a problem weight wise - she gets a fair bit of hardfeed all year round but doesn't get ribby (or fat for that matter) though her feet aren't the greatest.

Here's some pictures

They are fantastic crosses!! My horse Alfie Moon is 13 this year and he is by far the most kind, honest, most genuine horse i am ever likely to meet, he never says no and is so trainable and responsive. My boy is a proper pet and will stand for hours to be cuddled and fussed, he's been a real allrounder, but has concentrated more in dressage than anything else where hes done well at BD and won unaff championships. I would have another conn x tb in an instant as they have the speed/movement of a TB but the brain and self preservation of a connemara. Here are a few pics of my boy:
