I have just messured my 3.5 year old Connie and he stands at smidge under 14.3hh. So jiust wondering how big do u guys think he will grow and when doea this breed actually stop growing ? Thanks for reading

He could continue to grow, he could stay where he is. If you want to try the string test on him that should give you a good idea if there is more to come. Connemaras these days are frequently over height (I've seen some up to 16h!), and they can continue to grow until they are 7 or 8.

Yes the days of a 14.2hh connie being top height are long gone - the bigger the better for the UK and international market - up to 16hh isnt uncommon!

I have a 3 year old mare (turns 4 xmas time) and she has got to be near 15.2hh now...dam is 13.2!

Do the string test and it may give an idea if there is more growing to do, as said above they should be fully finished by 7 or 8

Unless you want to show as they must then be under 14.2hh. And a lot of the bigger ones have lost 'type'.......

This is very true! If you want to show your connie they must be 128 - 148cm, anything or above or below is not able to be shown in breed specific classes.

Mares (fillies) can be put forward for inspection from 2 years of age and stallions (colts) from 3 years of age. So if you put forward a 2 or 3 year old and it gets a recorded height of 148cm then you're fine to show it...despite the fact that it will definitely end up over height!

Not in the UK, connies are now and have been for a while called for measurement after age 4. Showing wise once you qualify for certain things or if you want to do the workers classes you have to have a height certificate and the BCPS does recall several ponies a year for a measurement.

Connemaras usually can only grow to 15hh (15.2hh at a push) but the average is 14.2hh. I'd check him to see if he is full Connie, especially as he still has some way to grow!

Nevertheless enjoy him! I hated but also loved bringing on my pony of 5 years. She's 9 now and I'd do anything to do it all again, as amazing and quirky as she is now :)

Eh? In order to be registered Connemara's can be 128 - 148/12.2 - 14.2. Anything over height will not be eligible for breeding approval, but will still be officially a "Connemara". I have seen registered Connemaras that were 16hh.
