Hi. I've finally got a horse box (van type 3.5 tomne)
I need to take out insurance and wander what questions I should be asking the insurance broker. Any advise on getting the best cover at a good value.
Question I have:
? road side recovery. And recovery of horse on board?
? Price for only me v any driver?

Thank you.

I would have a look at NFU and South Essex. They both offer recovery, give quick quotes and are reputable.

One thing to watch is tyres. If you don't have a spare wheel (we do now!) or at least a tyre then you can be stuck on the roadside for a long time as places such as National Tyres make you pay first if you don't have an account and tend not to carry tyres.

We now have a spare and have an account with them.

A friend had 4 awful hours roadside with a tyre burst, as they did not have a means of payment for the tyre company, who in turn had trouble locating a tyre!

Congratulations on your purchase, the freedom these little boxes bring is phenomenal

I've just this minute paid for my insurance, for me and a named driver (who had an accident in her own car last year) the insurance was £190 for the year, that's limited to 5000 miles travel and with quite a low value on the box.

My breakdown is £125 for a mid level sort of cover

Both are with Anthony D Evans

I understand that with my breakdown cover they may or may not tow the box with pony on board, this doesn't bother me whatsoever but some people refuse to have such cover.
My last box was an absolute nightmare and I think over a few years I must have called them out a dozen times but they fixed all problems at the roadside and got me on my way with the exception of one time when they did tow with the pony on board and he was none the worse for it. The skill of the various responders who came out to me over those years was second to none, my box was literally on its last legs and they never failed to get it going again, the only reason they towed that time was because the horsebox broke down on a dual carriageway that had no hard shoulder

Echo the advice about spare wheel/s - ideally carry two if you can
