Hi guys, looking for a little bit of advice.

I have a 4 year old connie who is currently out with my sister's fell mare, a welsh A mare and a coloured pony mare. We have had problems in the past with him becoming very attached to my sister's fell. He's now a little better but still tends to frequently shout for her when he's being ridden alone/she leaves the yard without him.

Due to another livery leaving, there may possibly (still need to chat with YO) be a space opening in the 'geldings' field so to speak. It runs parallel to my current field, but theres a bank which raises the geldings fenceline up, and a lot of it is covered with trees. He may still be able to see little fell mare.

This sort of problem is new to me. Do you think it'd be a good idea to move him away from the fell mare, but to where he may still see her. I'm also aware he'd be going from the only boy and biggest in the field to one of many boys and pretty much the smallest in the field - there's one other pony of a similar height to him and the rest are all 16.2+.

It's a scary thought of him being in there with the big boys, but he's a bit bargy as it is so it might teach him not to be quite so cocky in the field.

What do you guys think?

IMO it will do him good to go in with the 'big boys' I wouldn't worry about the others being bigger than him! It's the littluns that you have to worry about! no doubt he will go in and pull his bestest 'but I'm a baby' face and he'll land firmly at the bottom of the pecking order. at the end of the day if he's being bolshy and bargy then he could do with a bit of a 'shake up'. it would be a good idea to remove the mares from their field initially so that he's not tempted to try and get back to them (if only for a morning) and introduce him to the geldings one by one (with say 10 minutes between) so they can sort themselves out...

Replying on behalf of sister as her computers being stupid.

There are trees along the fence so hopefully he won't try to get over but with ponies you never know.

Thanks for the advice.
