Contacted RSPCA (Second post)

So...

Contacted the RSPCA today for them to do absolutely nothing.

Gypsy horses up the road from me, old rickerscote lane, stafford st17 4hg (If anyone cares for reference)..

They have been there 2 weeks, no food or water has ever been provided - I think they rely on the rain for water and rotten 2 year old hay bails for food.

they are all baby horses, some routed to the ground with snow, no food, no water, no shelter, no jackets/coats, freezing condtions, foreign short haired horses blatently freezing, some lay down on their front knees but stood on their back knees.

Some unable to stand, look collapsed or for all I know even dead (Cant get closer than about 30 - 40 mtrs. there was 8 horses in this small field, Now I only see 5 since yesterday ? they havent been moved.... field is completely in open view... maybe lay under snow ?

Contacted the RSPCA over 2 times, they said it doesnt matter, they will be fine, its not an emergency.

Anyone have any other views or where I should turn to next?
 
Maybe try a bit of patience and see if someone actually gets out to them today. They do actually have other things to deal with so cannot get to where you want them to go with a click of a finger
 
I can't actually believe that the RSPCA would have responded to you as they did.

Take photo's of the horses and email them via the RSPCA website (my RSPCA).

Contact your local media. And also contact the RSPCA insisting on action.
 
I know the RSPCa are frequently slated but agree I cannot believe they would do nothig if this situation was described to them.

I had to ring them about 6 weeks ago with regard to two neglected horses very close to my home. I described two horses living in a bog with no regular supplementary feed/hay, no fresh water except for flooding which had frozen over and on the day I phoned the old horse (24 years old) had started to refuse the food local people were offering it out of sympthy i.e it had shut down.

The help line were extremely concerned, said i was right to ring and an officer was out within 2 hours.

The situation described above sounds more acute as the two i reported were very occasionally being fed.

If its as bad as it sounds I would suggest a second call.

There is absolutely no way that would have been said to OP at all. They are either exaggerating or they completely misinterpreted what was said.

This sort of thread really riles me, because OP had only called this morning, yet by mid day was posting on a public forum slating a charity for doing nothing. :mad:
 
Contact your local council Animal Welfare Officer, take name and office of contact person record the time and ask for a record of their resonse to the call...... same with the RSPCA...... AND if no response report to a higher body within the organisations by recorded delivery with a heading "This is an open letter" This action certainly concentrates the minds of those concerned.

So many horses and ponies are in this sort of situation..... probably a need for some legislation to deal with it??????? an
 
Call BHS Welfare. A horse person will answer and another horse person will go and see the horses. And def call the council animal welfare too. Pls let us know what happens if you can. Good luck
 
Bl00dy hell!!! thats where I used to live, (go down old Rickerscote, turn right on to the little estate)

is it the field on the corner?... there used to be 2 ponies in there, a bay and a little chestnut, owned by the most scumbaggish family!! the ponies were starving, to the point you could put your hand round the larger ones backbone, there was a stable in the field (the ponies drank water from the stream) in the stable was one bale of hay, that the ponies were never given.... we called the RSPCA around 3-4 times, and nothing was done, I then rang the ILPH?... he went to see them and said the ponies were fine...

about a week later the land owner decided to kick them off the land (as I believe at the time, he was the one that could be prosecuted, this would be... around 12 years ago)

my yard owner bought them, and slowly nursed them back to health, they were pooing soil!! and in a dreadful mess, the vet said a few more days and the larger one would be dead.. Ive now got the little one here in Spain with me :D andthe other also got a lovely home, (so happy ending)

have you asked at the farm at the top of the lane who the ponies belong too?
 
If you do ring one of the others (BHS, WHW) don't tell them you have rung RSPCA. They will leave it to them if you do and the poor animals will be ignored by all and sundry. Someone ought to publicise the appalling lack of response by RSPCA (And, come to that, for a publicly funded organisation, the lack of opportunity to make a compalint. The only way I have found is via their FB page)
My farrier however knows the RSPCA equine officer for the Midlands - if you can confirm there has as yet been no action I'll text him and ask him to point it out to her.
