I don't have much information on my horse, and was wondering what people thought about writing a letter to previous owners with the address' on the passport?
I would'nt mind if someone wanted to contact me!!

Thoughts please! :)

I would love to hear from new owners of my horses. There's only one who I don't know where he is and that makes me feel sad!

Have to say though, some people are funny beggars - so don't take it for granted you'll get a good response BUT if they are normal, kind spirited people I'm sure you'll get a lovely response!

Good luck!!

That's what I thought, but as I have known everything about previous horses I find it strange not knowing! Anyway, a letter has been written and will posted this afternoon!

When I bought my old boy, I looked at the passport and decided to contact his previous owner. I'd bought him from the OH of a friend so knew a little of his history - but the friend's OH hadn't had him that long; had bought him for teaching on and then decided not to teach after all. (This was quite soon after passports had been introduced - so shows how long ago it was :))

Anyway, so there was this girl's name in the passport, and I'd also been given a few pictures of her with the horse, so decided to write her a letter saying that I was his new owner and that as she was about an hour's drive away, she'd always be very welcome to come up and see him anytime.

I got a letter back: she was very upset, said she was "devastated" to think that he'd been sold on as she'd been promised by the friend's OH that he'd have a "home for life" and she said she felt betrayed etc etc. I felt SO sorry for her, it was awful! But I did write back to her enclosing some photo's of him in his new home - and reiterated that she was always very welcome and all she had to do was give me a ring.

Bless her, she never came up to see him. But I just wonder whether some times getting in touch with the previous owner can open up a can of worms???

This is what I was worried about, however I was lucky and it has all turned out well!
I guess the lady who prommised a forever home didn't know her circumstances would change, we cant always prepare for things can we?
