Do you think that it would be rude of me to contact my horses previous owners to find out what she has done in the past?

The name and addresses are all in the passport but just wondered if this is a good idea?

As far as I know my horse had done the basics but I'm interested to find out what others have done with her.

Is this a good idea or am I opening a can of worms?

Go for it! - I would!

You can only ask the question, if people don't want to know then fair enough.

just a word if you do be prepapred for ear bashing
as some ex owners dont know when to give up
and do often keep on and on and on dont give tham your home phone no or address just your mobile then you can turn it off

You may find that they are thrilled to have news of the horse, and if they don't want to know, they will soon tell you. Yes, of course I would contact them

I think I will just to be nosy really! Their address might be an old one anyway and they may not even reply but worth I try I think, after all they can only say no or not reply and I wont have lost anything!

My horses previous owners contacted me....had to work hard to trace me and ended up ringing my friends mobile (long story but extracted from a joint entry form).

She has been absolutely lovely and is coming for her first visit on Saturday with daughter, friend and half her village (must get some more tea bags). I text her to tell her outcome of competitions we do and she is so delighted - its really nice being able to brag at bit and know she is taking it in the right way....because she is delighted for my girl. She wants the best for her and consequently wants the best for me...its like having a fan.

I would contact them, it will be pretty clear if they dont want to continue, but like me you may just end up with a friend.

I keep in touch with both of my horses previous owners even the one I've had for over 5 years. She's always delighted to hear how she's getting on and happy to know that she's happy and enjoying herself! I just write her a quick email every so often usually once or twice a year with a few photo's attached. If I sold either of mine I would love to keep in touch with their new owners in the same way!

You can give it a go, as some have already said previous owners can sometimes be a pain....don't give them your address or where you keep the horse. They may keep dropping in.

We occasionally send a disk to my lads previous owner showing him schooling & competing & they enjoy watching.

Im in regular contact with one of my horses past owners. She rings me regularly just for chat most of the time, and pops over when she can (lives a good few hours away).
Give them a ring/letter, youve got nothing to loose but could gain a friend

I contacted my boys previous owner and she was really pleased to hear how he was. She filled in the blanks for me. It was good to speak to her and i said i would keep in touch and let her know how he was.

Definately go for it, you may make the previous owners day - if not, they will let you know. The important thing is, you may pick up some vital information about your horse, so what have you got to lose?
