I need to completely stock out a tack room!

From saddle racks to grooming kit, rug rails to a hose pipe - so as my list increases dramatically has anyone got things they wouldn't or couldn't live without!! This doesn't include tack or rugs themselves (luckily for my bank balance they already exist!)
Am convinced I'm missing something obvious so all suggestions, tips and wise words appreciated!

Yes, screwdrivers, hammers, saws, stuff to repair the stables and fit bridle hooks etc. My husband hides his tools from me, so I have my own. I also have a few Blacksmith tools, in case I need to pull off a shoe.

First aid kit for horses.

Don't forget the kettle and supply of tea, coffee etc; those have to come first, you never know when the blacksmith or vet need them!
Will think of more later but chests for rugs, bandages, spare bits, also notebook and pens, tape measure too and a rubbish bin!

If I had one from scratch it would def have a sink with a cold water supply and a little instant hot water heater - better than waiting for the kettle to boil if you need to wash down a horse in winter, good for making tea and washing you hands. I would also have an industrial washing machine for washing rugs. A fridge (with freezer) for ice packs, cold bandages etc (and lunch). A microwave also for lunch is useful. First aid kit for horse and human essential. Some sort of heating for drying off wet rugs would be nice (and warming hands in winter).

i have got a filing cabinet,it has rugs in the draws, the top draw has grooming kit and i hang things on the handels.

it was 2nd hand,it is so useful that i am going to get another one.

oh,and vermin-proof too.

a lockable tack locker is a must, as is all security on the room.

A whiteboard / magnetic board is really handy. plenty of deep shelves and hooks too.

I have the fixed saddle racks but if I was starting from scratch I would invest in the fold down pole type. They are apparently better for the saddles and if they fold down when not needed they are space saving too. Agree with the whiteboard although you need to have the markers too! If you have children on the yard they like to draw with them!

Not a problem if you are willing to constantly replace them!

I have a whiteboard in the feedroom. And I put the marker pens out of the reach of little people

Thank you everyone so far - some great tips! (and teabags, not being a tea drinker I think you've just saved my relationship with my farrier!!

)

Partitioning just went up this morning so off now to plan the tack room with all this in mind!

dozziesmummy - any idea why the pole saddle racks are better for saddles?

I think its cos they don't interfere with the flocking - thats what my saddler has lectured me on a few times anway when he has reflocked for me. Either the pole type or he recommends that you cover the 'bars' of the traditional saddle racks with the foam you lag pipes with.

I was told the same and either use a saddle pole or put all the spare numnahs and saddle pads on the traditional type so its all padded out

Snap!

Yes it is to to with the flocking I think.

I also have loads of stacker boxes for keeping the sundry items like rugs, spare numnahs, boots etc. All are marked up with marker pens although recently I have bought the clear ones which I dont mark up as you can see what is inside, and they are more flexible if you reorganise. I have metal racking for shelving which I got for free.

Wipe clean board - ideal for leaving messages for someone you might not see for a couple of days.

Good secure lock on door so that tack is covered on insurance
