I would like to try some continental reins you know the type with stops/leather bands to try & help keep my reins short. Does anybody use these at a reasonably high level? Could I use them on the bridoon rein or would that be a real naff no no??!!

The only ones I found were those horrible cheap Kincade ones!!

Equiport do them, we used to use them on the work bridles but i know they were used on strong horses at atleast 3 star level xc!!

I use them at Elem BD and Nov BE, so just on a snaffle not a double.

I bought them because my reins tend to creep longer without me noticing. They are good. My horse tends to try and pull the rein longer in canter so it allows me to notice when he's doing this.

I was planning on the the having it on the snaffle rein & a plain rein on the curb.

I have exactly the same prob as Kirkton, mr big head Bruno manages to very sneakily pull the reins just a bit longer & a bit longer without me noticing! Have tried to Equiport site with no success. Have found some Sabre ones with our friends Derby House!!

I have these reins on all of my bridles because I really can't stand rubber grip reins!, on my double I do have plain reins, but I can't see a problem in having continental web reins on the bradoon and plain reins on the curb.

The best ones I've tried are the Kate Negus ones as they are nice and soft.

Nice to hear lots of people use them, I had some on my 12.2hh pony and was a bit worried that they were more suited to 12.2 than 17hh but you have all re-assured me.

Thank you

Fylde Saddlery make all leather ones in a range of widths (they call them notched reins). I've not tried them though - got the Sabre ones.

I always used them on the snaffle rein, as always, if it works I couldn't give a monkeys if they looked naff or not.

Have just sold a brand new pair on ebay for not much money. Sorry that doesn't help you much. They came with a bridle I bought and I was never going to use them so I sold them.
