Ok so i had to make my 1st insurance claim with NFU for a joint injury to my horses right foreleg. The vet decalred her sound after 6 weeks box rest after she has had scans- xrays- jointed injection of sterroids and having the sinovial fluid drained off ( it was basily a nasty joint sprain).

We started to being her back into work 2.5 weeks ago but the infusion seems to have flared up ( not to the extent it did before and she doesnt appear as lame- more a bit footy ) but its def not right again.

My worry is she has only just been declared sound on box rest and we werent expecting any further problems after.

The vets tickied the form on the box to say that treatment had been completed BUT im not happy that its flared up a bit since she has been ridden and turned out and it appears more fluid has gathered in the joint so i feel i need to call the vet tomo morning and its liekly that she will need seeing again.

I sent the papers off to NFU but if i have to claim for further vets fees would they continue on the current claim as this is the same injury or would they say as the vet wasnt expecting more problems and ticked the box to say treatment was complete would they make me pay the excess again.

I dont feel that the vets should have signed it off yet untill we had got her fit and back into work as she was on box rest at the time.

I really dont want to have the pay the excess again on this injury.

Can anyone advise if they had been in this situation there they thought a claim was finished but within weeks the injury flared up again?

As if being worried about my girl isnt enough im worried about the bills.

When i spoke to my insurance company about exactly the same situation they told me i could continue to claim for up to a year from the original injury and then it would be excluded. My vet did the same signed her off as sound before rehab thankfully we have has no further problems. Wish you luck!!

Thank for replying- i very worried that its flared up again and that has made me feel much better knowing you continued your claim.

Im with NFU and thus far they have been so helpful but i was worried as the vet signed it off id have to claim again.

I shall be calling the vet tomo and nfu to vertify this is ok.

No as your other reply said it will continue covered for up to a year, and you might have had a claim form sent to cover any futher treatment,I know what your going through as been there and worn the Tee shirt so to say, also NFU is a good Insurance company, just keep them informed and you will have no worries....all the best with it and stop worrying and hope your horse is OK!

I think they will continue it as the same injury.
Im also with NFU and they are pretty good at paying up and are reasonable.

Most insurance companys will continue a claim for 12 months anyway, but after that sometimes wont cover that area again.

So i dont think you have to pay the excess again.
Just call NFU as soon as you have seen the vet and listen to what he has to say about treatment

Good luck
