Contractors to spray fields?

Hi there

Before I start ringing round to get some quotes could you please tell me what you pay to have your fields sprayed. I have a problem with ragwort in about 2 acres of my 11.5. Bloody stuff is getting the better of me there. So I thought I'd continue keeping on top of the rest and get a professional in for the bad bit.

My main problem is that it's Oxford ragwort not common so doesn't grow in clumps just strands so pulling is a horrendous job.
 
I got quoted £300ish for spraying 2.5 acres, like you, I have a localised problem in a couple of paddocks, in the end, I didn't go for it and decided to do a mixture of spot spraying, pulling out and grazing sheep/goats.
 
I've just paid £200 to have 5-6 acres sprayed for ragwort and buttercups. He used Depitox and Headland transfer. I have been pulling ragwort as I see it but the buttercups are bad and there are a few docks and thistles.
 
Was quoted £55.25 + vat per acre but that was someone who did aminety ground, I think it's a bit to late to have the ragwort sprayed, as it's best to catch when they get to a certain size April time and then not able to graze for over 4 weeks.
 
Thank you for your replys. It's only just growing through, I have been watching it like mad and it's about 2-3 inches high horrid stuff. I don't plan to graze these fields for at least a year (or until it's all gone if longer needed).
 
Obviously, try Googling "agricultural contractors". Then, do you have a machinery ring in your area? Agri-chemical supplier?

Ragwort needs to be sprayed at the floret stage, once in the spring and again in the autumn.

The cheapest way for a small acreage is to get someone to spray it when they are doing other acrages. Or get someone to do it with a sprayer on a quad.
 
I work for a company that does this it is either sprayed or pulled by hand and the usual charge is two men at £50 an hour it's hard work
 
I paid £150 to have 12 acres sprayed earlier at the beginning of May that was to kill ragwort, docks, thistles, nettles and the abundance of clover that was taking over my field.....6 weeks grass is now looking much better :)
