I have never signed a contract at my current yard, have been there for nearly 6 years. I handed in my notice on sunday and im now leaving to move to my new yard on 7th feb. YO said when i handed in my notice that it was my 'one months notice'. Now im going on 7th, which obviuosly isnt a month, do i still have to pay for a whole month? I know she will try and make me.

I deal with a lot of employment law stuff at work, and im pretty sure that as ive never signed anything i dont have to pay a full month?

Does anyone know where i will stand on this?

Out of courtesy I think your yard owner can reasonably except 1 months notice. But it's a tricky one if you didn't sign a contract - it could be argued however that you had a verbal contract, with only your word against hers that you didn't.

Yes i do pay monthly. However i dont see why i should pay for the stables when im not in them. plus she has apparently got a 'waiting list' so they will be filled straight away anyways.

Even if you don't have a contract I think 1 months notice is common courtesy.
Leave on a good note and pay the money, you never know when you might need their help in the future.

I never had a contract on my first yard - when I left I paid up until the billing date - eg end of the month even though I left earlier.

Lasy yard I left I paid weekly amount as per contract and paid it to the day I left (they were being pedantic tw**s so I worked out what the daily rate was and paid up until the morning I left) - no intention of going back there (even to compete) so no problem - wouldn't give them my money!

tricky one, if verbal you could agrue case.... it depends on whether it's worth the hassle........
if not i would pay (as much as it would pee me off aswell), as you never know what future hold...... and horseworld is small

As a yard owner I have a similar situation with one of my liveries - I have a written contract with one months notice which everyone has signed. last week one livery told me she had decided to move to a new yard near her house, but she didn't know when. 6 days later she told me she was leaving on the 2nd feb. I could charge her for a month - but as she told me last week I have compromised and charged her 2 weeks.
