Can anyone suggest a feed supplement or natural remedy to help control nerves in horses. My horse gets very anxious at shows mainly and has to poo all the time. Also if he stand next to horse for a few minutes he gets very upset when they leave. He lives at a livery with some other horses and his best friend welly. He does not care about the others but hen welly leaves the field he runs aroung like a loon calling for him. They are in separate fields so i dont know what to do. As the show season is coming up i want to try to control his nerves and save my poor mother from running around after him with a bucket and sponge! Any suggestions?

I'm looking at calmers too - for my youngster to try to lessen his rather "extreme" flight response, he's taken to tanking off bucking violently when something scares him - came off and cracked some ribs last week so must find something to help. I've just got some Blue Chip Karma which the feed merchants recommended - you can adjust the dose up and down a bit depending on what you are doing. Also interested in "Oxyshot" which sounds like it might help. He's not naturally spooky or fizzy but just want something to make life a little safer! The Karma is mostly magnesium.

i've got my new boy on Equine America's Magnitude which is pure Magnesium Oxide. He is very jumpy, every little noise he's scared of. I'm not sure how much it helps, but he does seem to be chilling out a little bit.

supreme products do a very good calmer called defuse. its very good for nervous horses, worked a treat on introducing my ex racehorse to showing

Try brewers yeast (gold label) that has definatly chilled our pony

A calmer combined with getting out and about as often as poss to desensitise him. Clinics etc are a good compromise as they will be at a different venue and a bit stressful but w/o the full blown hubbub of a competition. Even if you work him at another persons school every now and then that can help.
