Wig is fully clipped and currently living out in just a 0g. It's been very mild here so far this winter and I fully clipped him (he had a blanket last year) because when he was out naked and unclipped, he was sweating just mooching in the field. He's also fit but with a bit of a tum so I was also hoping he'd drop a bit if he was a bit cold but, alas, no. He'll be coming in overnight soon as the grass is now starting to go. He's spent a couple of nights in this week for convenience (early lessons and farrier). I always leave his turnout rugs on in the stable (with no issues before) so have done the same this week and both mornings, he's been a bit sweaty under his rug. He's not been sweaty in the field. He was clipped about a month ago but it hasn't grown back much at all so re-clipping won't do much.
I can't leave him naked with a full clip in the middle of winter (albeit a mild one) I'd be constantly worrying he'd be too cold. I'm guessing he's fine most of the night and is only sweating as it warms up in the morning as he's not really sweaty just a little bit damp. I have a couple of stable rugs that might be a bit more breathable but they're 200g+ (can't see me ever using them again and will probably sell them) and a very light travel rug (barely more than summer sheet) that I think will be basically the same as leaving him naked. I'm wondering if the fact that it's got no fill at all is contributing to the sweatiness as it may not be quite so breathable? I've got a 50g I could try on him but it feels counter-intuitive!
I'm normally quite resolute on my rugging but I really don't know what to do for the best with this one. Help!
