Converting a towing vehicle to lpg

I think you have to work it out whether it will be worth it. I can't understand why LPG isn't more popular, so there must be some drawbacks, or everyone would be doing it.

I had a friend who ran a large Peugot and a Rolls Royce on lpg and thought it was wonderful. I noticed, however, that her latest car isn't, but maybe she doesn't do he mileage now, and the RR was her husband's who sadly died a few years ago.

I have a lpg fiat stilo abarth only used for towing the shetland, OH bought it for me last winter. They hold their value more and are easier to sell as long as they're maintained and get serviced properly as the insurance usually ask for a certificate.

We converted our landrover to LPG. It made sense with the thirsty 3.5 litre engine. It has been reliable, although there is a slight decrease in performance,so make sure your vehicle is well above spec for towing.

The problem we have found is finding LPG locally. The cost of providing gas has proved prohibitive for many suppliers so our nearest supply is now 20 miles away. Although we have a 70+ litre tank, this Landy does about 4 miles per litre,so driving any distance to fill up really stings!
We are considering putting another gas tank in,but this will either mean no interior space,or no petrol tank. Engines like a frequent drink of petrol to lube the carbs and its useful to have the option to drive on petrol in case you can't find gas.
All things to consider before making the investment!

Anyone done this? Does it devalue immensely the purchase price, or increase it? Thanks
It needs to be a good conversion with multi point gas injection to work and drive nicely costs upwards of £1500 which still buys a fair bit of petrol and it can cause problems like damage to valves and the cylinder head.. I dont think it alters the value much either up or down esp for older cars but can alter your insurance and you must tell them!! and dealers are suspisious of having them as trade ins the other thing that is important to factor in is you will get less mpg from gas than petrol as lpg has a lower amount of energy than the same amount of petrol so not quite as economical as it might apear at first glance say you get 25 on petrol you might only see 20 mpg or less on gas!!!
, I would buy something thats already been converted if you want to give it a try but do your sums first ...oh and make sure you get a cetificate for the conversion for insurance purposes...
