Evening all!

I'm thinking I need to relent and buy a fly rug (incl. neck) for my horse, as all the horse flies of Suffolk seem to be feasting on His Lordship's neck and fly repellants don't seem to be doing the job between applications.

I've been reluctant to use such rugs before because I generally prefer him to be rugless but also because he's naturally a hot horse - so can anyone recommend a good fly rug that absolutely won't heat him up at all?

I don't want one that's a 'hood' type or has a face cover, just a normal rug with either a neck attachment or a combo neck. Masta and Rambo tend not to be great fits on him, a Mark Todd cut fits him well.

Thanks in advance :D

I have the Weatherbeeta Super fly rug with detachable hood. It also comes which a fly mask and was about £65.

I was rather reluctant to get them at first- but they are brilliant! They have kept the nasty horse flies at bay and they haven't had any rubs yet. (They have had them on for about 5 weeks). In the heat the last few days, my bay horse has got a bit damp around her neck, but she doesn't seem too worried.

Derby House own brand fly rug - brilliant! I also have a Weatherbeeta but find the neck very short whereas on the derby house fly sheet the neck completely covers horse's neck even when grazing. better still they're on offer at the moment approx £25 & no I don't work for Derby House.

I'm sorry to hijack your post OP... but I'm also having to consider the thought of a fly rug on a hot horse... The only rug I've ever found that fits him well is the Rambo supreme  !! does anyone know much about their fly rugs fit and value for money?

another vote for derby house, really brilliant rugs for the £! Wouldn't recommend the rambo sweetich hoody though, brilliant at keeping flys off and a great fit, but a bit of a warm rug in this hot weather.

The Rambo Fly Buster is excellent - great big tail flap lots of belly coverage and good length of neck, and good fitting over the chest on big horses and lots of shoulder room too. Plus you can also get a waterproof sheet which attaches to the rug so if it becomes a wetter summer then they stay dry too!!!!!!

It does however make your horse look like it is off to war!

I dont like my derby house one - I find it doesnt fit that well and doesnt stay put. I have a riff raff one that has a neck and ear holes and it seems to stay put, fits well, doesnt rub and keeps my black horse cool as a cucumber!
