really excited about this horse -
there is this horse that is on the way to my yard who we always stop and talk to , she is really sweet
she is 14.2HH and about 13years old
and completely bombproof which is really good because I would want her to come out on hacks and give my 5yr old confidence on hacks
BUT she has a bone spavin and is 13
now questions
- please tell me about bone spavins
- what is the oldest you will buy ( is 13 to old ??)

To me, 13 is a fab age to buy. Not too old at all, but old enough to know what he is doing with plenty of life left in him. My boy, who is 16, was diagnosed with spavins about 5 years ago. I know how to manage his, but he has a host of other problems as well, so I am far from an expert. As far as I know, once fused, spavins aren't too big a problem, but I will stand corrected by someone who knows more. Mac is a great hacker, and the more he is worked, gently, the better he moves, so his hocks don't cause that much of a problem.

Penny had a bone spavin, but we managed it with supple ease gold and devils relief, and plenty of year round turnout, hers developed at age 12 on a hock joint, but never gave much bother till last winter, she got bit stiff and turning was stiffer for her, so she retired to hills, and life as a gentle hack. Surprisingly living on a hill has done wonders for her, built up muscles and hacking up and down a small mountain helped her. Once they are formed they don't give much bother, well that's my experience of it. Penny still did Polocrosse and jumping and hacks and farm and beach rides till last nov. she is now 21

great she is perfect !!! so riding but with devils sup?? I would be hacking her and bring her back into work (she hasn't be ridden in a couple of months ) any boots , shoeing or tips to manage her

Why don't you talk to an equine vet? They should be able to talk you through the prognoses and management of spavins.
