Can anyone recommend a good one for my bulldog please . There seems to be a few on the market so it's hard to choose
 
I like the swamp cooler coats from ruff wear. They are expensive but in my experience are the only ones that will actually cool a warm dog. The silver sheet ones will keep a cool dog cool but not cool down a warm one
 
Second the swamp cooler, awesome coat that keeps my boy cool in quite extreme conditions. It seems to work better if you soak it, wring it out and then soak again.
 
I don't like them, particularly those that rely on being kept wet to work. Although dogs and horses are different, there is a reason we have moved on from putting wet towels on a horse to cool it down.

The best places to cool a dog are their belly, inside their hind legs etc, so if you do get one, make sure those areas are covered. For me a cool mat would be a better investment.
 
I'm sorry as this isn't going to be a very helpful post as I can't rememeber the name of the company but someone else may. There's a stand at Badminton every year that sells cool coats, the coats are a vivid blue. When I went to badminton this year it was a fairly warm day and not a single dog that was wearing one of these coats was panting, big, small, furry, etc. I was amazed, I just wish I could remember the make. I even went over to the stand to enquire, you had to soak the coats but they where made of a very strange feeling material so they didn't actually feel very wet and you had to re soak them every 2-3 hours, that's all I can remember.

Absolutely agree - 100%.
My dog has a keep cool coat, synthetic chamois type that is wetted and wrung out, and goes stiff when allowed to dry out fully. (that takes a long time) I used the coat for my black dog a lot when I had a car with a less than ideal air con system, and it meant I could drive to the river to walk him without any panting at all in the car.
I know people that have the swamp cooler for their dogs and they also seem to work well.
 
My friend has one of the vivid blue ones for her Bernese mountain dog and it does a brilliant job of keeping her cool in the heat ( not much a round at the moment though)...
