Hi

During a schooling session my horse gets really sweaty, even though he's clipped.

When it's warn I hose off and let him dry but in this colder evening weather I'm just walking him off until he's stopped puffing and then putting a summer sheet on and leaving him to dry naturally in his stable.

What would you do?

My mare sweats like nothing else. In cooler weather I sponge her down so she doesn't get soaking wet like when she is hosed, or brush the sweaty bits off with a damp water brush. Then walk her round or put a fleece on in the stable for an hour.

its very hot! i turned my clipped horse out tonight after hosing off as he was sweating when worked even at 7pm but it is still warm at night so no need to have a sheet on him!! Its like july out there!

If my boy's sweaty around his girth (has been recently despite being clipped out fully, seems to be a heatwave!) I give a quick towel off with a clean dry towel just on his sweaty bits, and if it's chilly, I'll put on a fleece or cooler for a bit until he's dry, and then rug up if needs be. I avoid water unless it's sufficiently warm, although hot clothing on the very sweaty areas and then quickly shoving on a fleece is supposed to be very good :) xx

If sweaty, I always wash as mine is out 24/7 so I don't feel fair to leave him stinky and become a fly magnet.

I'm not worried about rugging in this heat after schooling and then sponging. In the cold, I like to dry in a stable with a waffle so they don't get chilly. As soon as dry, out - no rug.
