Was hopeing you might have some good ideas about how to cool my hairys down, both are sweating just stood in the field, not helped by the fact that Frankie is black.
So far I have put a running plait in his mane but would like some ideas as how else I can help them
So what do you do?

Clip them?

Shelter? Not that you can force them to use it, mine stand in the shadows of their shelters and move around as the day goes on. Their cchoice.

In by day, out at night?

One of the best shade shelters for horses in hot weather is simply a post frame with cam netting or similar over the top. Easy to put up and easy to take down if your planning people get all jobsworth.

Our temperatures are past 30C with humidex at the moment, 18C at night.

Quite a few of my horses come in through the day, out at night, the in-foal mares are really feeling it.

Black attracts the heat so presumably black horses do get a bit hotter

I hose Shy down before he goes out (let him dry off first tho) and when he comes in at night. mane plaited, and luckily some shade in his paddock. There's not a lot else you can do, but remember that hairies live out all year round, and that sweating is natural - as long as they have plenty of water, and sunscreen, they'll be fine xx

We rode past the river today, and someone was desperate to get in it, but we couldn't beat a path to it *sigh* x
