I've just purchased a bottle of this over the internet - and am a bit scared to use it now I've read the packaging. So, has anyone ever had any bad side effects using it? Is it safe to use on the horses stomach, udder, inside of back legs (ie less hairy bits).
 
I swear by it but have never used it on udder but do use it on inside of legs, stomach etc. I put it on the cloth provided and wipe over, I find I only have to use it every other day and have never found anything as effective.
 
Also swear by it, use it everywhere and never had any problems. Never use the gloves provided and have no problems with my hands either. Marvellous stuff!
 
Not Coopers per se, but the same formulation has been very commonly used for years and years where I'm from and found to be safe and effective. (Or as much as any repellant can be, hence the scary warnings!) Use as directed and patch test the horse first - the same for ANY preparation, even "natural" ones - and you should be fine. And hopefully fly free.
 
swear by the stuff. I just wipe under their bellies, along their backs, manes and top of tails, works a treat.
I only use it once a week or so, a bottle lasts ages. :)
 
Have used it for years, no problems at all and have used it all over although I avoid the udder directly. Very effective and does last ages (except when the other liveries steal it) and also kills lice if you "dose" with more.
 
my mare has SUPER sensitive skin and alot of allergies, and we have to patch test every product for sensitivity.
she didnt react at all to the coopers and i truly think its one of the best fly repellents on the market (: i swear by it
as long as you patch test a visible area and your horse doesnt get any hives or reactions you will be fine (:
 
Ive never had or seen a reaction to Coopers and we have been using it for years. I have sensitive skin and dont bother with the gloves provided and Ive never had a problem.
Much more cost effective than the other repellents on the market and more effective too.
 
Brandy - I spray on a sponge/soft "hair" bodybrush to apply it to. I find I have to spray quite a few times to cover the bristles and then just smooth over the coat/face/delicate areas. Much less wastage though as it covers the brush in a fine covering rather than a minor flood in the palm of your hand!!

Wouldnt spray directly on horse though for worry of it drifting in the wind and entering eyes etc.
 
Not had any side effects on anything I have used but like it says, just do a small patch test first, don't be afriad to use it, it's very good stuff, a small patch test won't cause any serious harm even if your horse did have any adverse skin reactions.

Companies have tightend up with the warnings on products due to the side effects some horses have had in the past, Powerfazer for example, had quite a few complaints as the some horses suffered burn type reactions but many people don't bother reading the instructions and just go squirting it all over the place on horses with known sensetive skins.
