Coopers Horse Fly Repellent Plus - out of stock every where

My vet says this happens from time to time when they can't get the ingredients or there is a manufacturing problem. He's given me Deosect, which is effective but smells horrible compared to coopers!

Ditto this, my vet said it had been withdrawn and gave me deosect instead

Just bought deosect, seems to be V good, I only used third recommended amount as first time using it but keeping 85% horseflies away just remember to spray everywhere!

So why was the active ingredient mention in H&H this week? and is still on Coopers website?

Possibly my bad. I think I mentioned Coopers, and haven't actually bought a bottle in years. I used it for a case of lice (worked great for that), but don't use it as an everyday fly spray, so still have some left in the bottle.

Just phoned MSD who supply Coopers. As per tatty_v, they said there is a manufacturing issue and it won't be available this year but it has not been withdrawn from the market

Deosect definitely works and from what I've seen it is pretty effective against horseflies, it just smells horrible! I have been using it in conjunction with NAF citronella spray to try and mask the chemical smell.

Deosect is very effective and a fraction of the cost of Coopers as you dilute it. We bought a small bottle three years ago and I think it will last this summer out too, for three beasts.

Give you horse a clove of unpeeled garlic in their morning feed. Not expensive supplements or garlic granules, just a simple clove. After 3 days the flies will give up! I've been doing this for 4 years in the long hot Portuguese summers and it works.

I will try this, do they eat it OK?

9/10 of mine do. One carefully eats around it and leaves in at the bottom of the bucket. I then wash it and add it to his next feed. The same clove has lasted for 2 weeks now! :D

I add a few drops of citronella oil to our diluted Deosect, and it smells OK.....

Its very economical as others have said, as a bottle lasts years.

Wear plastic gloves when making it up though, and don't spray when dogs/kids are about...

I managed to get hold of coopers last year. Had a wonderful fly free summer. Then I'm the autumn (wanted to stock up for this year) it vanished. Hope they make it next year, as currently using power phaser which is good but as my mare doesn't like sprays I'm going through a bottle a week dabbing it on a sponge and wiping it on.

They do Power Phaser as a cream too - it's still foul but very effective ! Just don't drop it as the lid breaks :/
I prefer Tritec, although I know it's expensive :(

To which bit? Because its been proven that it can cause anaemia and is bad for gastrointestinal health. Raw garlic is even worse than the powdered stuff as well. And its not effective as a fly repellent.

I fed my sweet itch horse garlic for years and it did nothing for fly repelling at all! We also found out he had EMS so that could be why flies loved him?

seems to make a lot of sweet itch horses itchier too, I am sure it is all gut microbiota linked, I suspect there are a lot of things connected to that we haven't even identified yet, I can't fathom feeding a horse an antimicrobial long term even if it does reduce the flies, I'd rather they had flies.
