Not sure if this is the correct forum for this but OH has just come back from doctors and nurse has suggested that the problems he is having, coughing etc are down to COPD. Has anyone ever heard of this in humans.
Obviously I shall be transferring him from straw to a dust free bed possibly Neds bed and soaking his hay but seriously has anyone else had to deal with this and have you any tips that may help.

Wow I've not heard of it in humans. But I suppose as zigzag says, make sure you hoover under the head of the bed, and keep soft furnishings (i.e. carpets) to a minimum, buy a new synthetic pillow etc. Lots of fresh air. No sprays around him, etc. In our family we get a lot of rhinitis, asthma etc due to dust and perfumes and cats.

buy dust covers for pillow cases and beds
try to keep dogs in one area if you have them and cats to
its hair can be, and airborune particals
get one of those air freshers that takes away oduors and mircro organisums -
nabulisers help - vapour helps you can
get cytrals of methol and you can drop them in hot water
and leave in a room the steam clears the air making it better to breath
i used to have broncitus which is a form of copd
well i still have it but not like i did when iwas a child was really ill all the time but grew out of it

have your bed near a window for air and have it so its tilted
ie plenty of pillows so he can breath better
and sit upish rather than laying flat

the methol cyrtals are cheap and you can get them from any chemist if hes really bad then drop them in a bowl of hot water you only need a tiny amount ok as they really strong
then shove his head over bowl with a towel get him to take deep breathes but i warn you it smarts and makes you eyes run but it does open airways extremely well
then in your room at night leavea a bowl so he can breath easier during the night
