My little old pony has been very poorly and is horribly thin.

I'm considering trying her on Copra but she can be a bit picky and I'm told it can be a bit of an acquired taste.

Anyone had trouble feeding it? I wonder if they'd send me a little sample if I asked nicely. :)

I've just started my lot on it! I'd been toying with the idea for a while but was worried about them refusing to eat it as my 2 year old is suspicious of anything she didn't have with her mother & the 4 year old is a fussy eater as she's not used to anything that doesn't contain molasses!! I took the plunge & bought a bag - soaked a bit, offered it to the 2 year old with some Spillers High Fi Cubes - she told me I was poisoning her! The chubby 12.2hh ate it but then she's always hungry & will eat wormers!! I didn't even bother with the 4 year old as I thought "no chance"! However, she smelt it, pulled me over to the bucket & ate it as if it was the best thing in the world!! I cannot believe it!!! Am slowly adding a bit to the 2 yr old's feed & she's eating it now too!
Definitely worth a try! PM me your address, I'll post you a sample! :D

I've known a yard that used it for all their horses and all of them ate it no problem, even the fussy ones. They all looked amazing on it too!

My 16-year-old Polish WB cross is a picky so-and-so (won't touch any Global Herbs supplements, or anything with Bute in it, or certain types of haylage - you get the picture) and he LOVES Copra. Inhales it. It does his coat the world of good and is great for condition without fizzing him up.

Thanks all...sounds like it's worth a try then as she just isn't putting weight back on. It might well be that she has something sinister going on that is preventing weight gain but I'd like to give her every chance.

Dazed & Confused that is SO kind of you, thank you! Will PM you now. :)

I spent months trying to get one of mine to eat it, finally got him into it and he lost weight and had a reoccurrence of his gut problems on it. On investigation I found other similar stories. It does seem to work well for most horses but not all - another one of mine did well on it for a while.

My fussy Arab eats it I just put a tiny bit in his feed to start then slowly increased and now he licks the bowl clean, it smells delicious and the dog always steals some out of the feed bowl.
