Last year I had my horse clipped by someone else as I don't own any clippers. This year I think it might be more economic in the long term to buy my own but what to buy? Any recommendations welcomed please.
Nooo buy the liveryman harmonys!! My clipper phobic horse is now fine to do with them
Easy peasy to use, charge lasts ages and soo quiet. I think mine were about £140.
Clipping isn't difficult. These are my first clippers and I hadn't been taught how, but she ended up ok! You get two sets of blades and can run them off the mains or battery pack. I hear they aren't the best for really hairy coblets though, but they do my WB fine. Shop around for the best price
ive clipped for a good few years now (about 11 i think) i charge my friend £35 for a full clip but i dont do anybody elses, only do it as shes a friend and her horse is good to clip.
it was cheaper to buy my own clippers and learn to clip as i needed the vet to be around to sedate and the girl who clipped wanted more as she was waiting around (can totally understand) but it works out cheaper now. I clip 1 of my mares every 3 weeks, 2 get clipped every 6 weeks and the last 1 gets clipped twice through the winter (more if she wasnt the child of the devil)
the heiniger ones carry on through hairys or hogging manes/feathers very well, not a prob.
I have the Moser/wahl Avalon. Im on my 3rd year now and theyve been great. I wouldnt say they were heavy duty but have clipped my own hairy beast great. He was clipper phobic before I tried these.
I have the Avalon ones too which have somehting like diamond sharp/hardened blades, were about £280 new about 5 yrs ago and a full battery is enough to do a full clip easily, really quick to rechagre over lunch and come with carry case etc and video. quiete and gives good clip. does my 17 h warmblood well 3 times a yr and other peoples horses. has harness too if needed or clips onto belt.
clipping is a skill! i wouldnt clip with cordless as power varies! ss are you hunting that you require 7 clips? rug well after clipping first and second clips only last about 4 weks dep on breed and living situations, 3rd and 4th clips should see you through
Cordless clippers tend to have less power - but be quieter and better for a difficult horse.
There are also variations depending whether you have a thick coated beast or a relatively fine coated beast and some are decidedly easier to use than others (depending on the weight/angle, etc) and some blades require sharpening more than others. I would google for a clipper specialist and have a chat with an expert to ensure that you get the best pair for your purpose. (If you google some sites have heaps of info anyway.)
I have the Avalon ones which are really quiet and great for a clipper phobic horse.
eeh? to coffee bean... yes the power varies on cordless clippers... something to do with the wattage and size of clipper motor! technical if you feel the need to argue. if you have a native or native cross your best clip will be off a mains charged clipper.
i have the lister liberty clippers and they are cordless and get throught the hairyest of horses highley recommended and yu can buy a mains adapter for them
