Are his feathers quite thick? I'm guessing yes in which case I would NOT buy the Wahl Pro Rechargeable trimmers, normally I would recommend them for nervous horses in body clips but for feathers they would not be powerful enough when used cordless (trust me I have tried), though if he'll let you use a cord they'd probably be ok but make sure you wash his feathers first.
Yes his feathers are reasonably thick. Normally we would just clip them but this means getting the extension lead and its all a bit of a pain, also I have to rely on my sister to do them. So I just wanted something I could just pick up and take into the stable and do myself.
I was cutting them with scissors yesterday and I now have a blister!
Liveryman Element trimmers.... not really designed to clip a whole horse.... but are capable..... but brill for trimming work. As mentioned before wash feathers well first
Castle's feathers are quite thick and I use Liveryman Flair trimmers, very compact and easy to use. I have used them recently to trim Ali's tail, and he can sometimes be a bit spooky with noises but he's fine with them
I think they're about £20, I got mine new off Ebay
