This is probably a very longshot but I'm desperate. My farrier is out of action and all the others in my area (The Lizard) are too busy to come out. My horse has had his shoes on for 12 weeks or so now and they are so worn down that I can no longer ride him, and of course he has grown a huge amount of foot.

If some kind person could ask their farrier if he/she would be willing to come and shoe my horse I would be eternally grateful. I would be very happy to pay extra for the travelling and inconvenience. Please do PM if you know of someone. Many thanks.

Hi Bertie Boo, sorry to say that I think all the farriers in the area are fairly full. At least three I know of covering the Lizard won't take on any more. Has your farrier arranged any 'emergency' cover with any of his colleagues? Will ask around and PM you if I get any results as I'm in your area (horse in Helston, I live towards Redruth).

Can you get your vet (or someone else capable) to take his shoes off so that his feet can wear down a bit on their own while waiting for the farrier. Farrier must have done a good job for them to stay on so long though.

Unfortunately you're about as far west as you can go - otherwise I'd've asked OH if he had any recommendations (vet in West Devon).

Thanks for your replies.

Cornish, no he hasn't arranged any cover. He is just about able to do a few small ponies but his back couldn't cope with my shire X! Thank you for asking around, very much appreciated.

Wishful, I hadn't thought of that, if things carry on like this for much longer, it may be the way to go. Yes I know we live as far south west as you can get before falling into the sea!

Well, hiya Bertie-boo, didn't know you posted on here.
Martin managed to get Duke's shoes off after 12 weeks, but it is not as easy as farriers make it look!
As you know, we had the same problem when our farrier broke his ankle.
Duke is being used unshod at the moment and, so far, his feet are doing fine.
Speak soon.
