My horse has had a coronary band injury since november and we have had her on box rest from jan to march. There has been 1cm of hoof growth in 5 weeks.
Its a really long story as t how the hoof got in the mess it has but Im after ways to help with good quality hoof growth.
Can anyone recomend suplements/lotions/oils to feed or put on hoof/coronary band to speed up recovery?

We have been feeding biotin with her daily feed but my farrier has said to just leave the hoof for now and not put any lotions on etc but I just feel for my state of mind that if Im putting something on it then its helping it!

So anybody else with coronary band injuries please share your stories and tips!!

Coronary band injuries can be incredibly difficult to resolve, not least because it is difficult to immobilise the area and truly rest it (even on box rest your horse will spend most of his time standing up).

Nutrition is definitely the key, you say you are supplementing with biotin, do you have him on a feed balancer also? This would help him in other ways too; help to keep him sane and make sure he doesn't become deficient in any vitamins/mineral/proteins without gaining weight. Choose one that isn't a conditioning feed as well as a balancer, such as those aimed at the laminitic market or D&H Ultimate Balancer.

As for lotions and potions, I'm not sure there is any evidence to say they will definitely help, but I think that the Kevin Bacon range is very good and will help to keep the hoof horn elastic.

I hope this helps.
