I have a 15.3hh 7 yr old mw cob who is currently being schooled. In his last home he was used for hacking, sponsored rides etc, and when he came to me, it was obvious that he'd never done much in the school.
I have been undergoing treatment for breast cancer for the past 10 months and so an experienced friend has been exercising him for me. Last week I was given the all clear (hooray!) and I'm looking forward to being more 'hands on' with him.
However, I'm not sure he's in the best bit for HIM. At present he wears a Baucher Hanging Snaffle (with stainless steel lozenge). I am questioning whether to change this bit as he has a tendancy to lean on the right rein (shows some stiffness), and he throws his head up sometimes too. His teeth have been done, his back checked by two osteo/chiro's, and I've also had the vet out to give him the once over. No problems were seen, and so we are cracking on with his schooling/education.
Another friend has suggested changing the bit slightly, to one with a copper lozenge to get him to accept the bit more easily.
Can anyone offer any ideas/advice?
Thanks.
