Hi,

I've just bought a 3 year old haflinger who I'm really keen to show. But after showjumping and doing very very little in terms of showing shows. We will just be doing local for now but if all goes well bigger shows are an option. I have just bought a green tweed jacket with a green velvet color.

Firstly, apart from the normal ridden class what breed specific classes am I eligible to enter?

Secondly, what colour hat do I wear?

Lastly, what bridle? Rolled or flat?

All so confusing after having so many years out of the showing scene.

Thank you!

You will be fairly limited at many shows, some will have classes for foreign breeds which you can do, she cannot go in normal Mountain and Moorland classes, otherwise it will be things like best ridden, novice ridden or the fun classes such as family pony/ PC pony or once she is jumping WHP could be an option, all shows vary their schedules so you need to check them and see what suits.
Also check the breed society as they may run a show in your area which would give a lot more options for you.

I am guessing she is actually 4 this year rather than 3 otherwise you will not be able to do ridden classes until next year and will have to stick to in hand until then.

Get a navy velvet covered hat.

A flat bridle with a plain noseband that suits her head.

Exactly this :)

We dropped the Foreign breed class at our local show as we'd only get 1 or 2 entries each year, it wasn't worth it in the end for us.

I think SWPA run foreign breed qualifiers too so have a Google
