Hi folks,

I used to do a lot of showing as a teenager but have been out of the game for a while, concentrating more on dressage with my mare these days. I am planning on showing her in a small riding horse class next week and need some advice on which tack i should use. I think i am correct in thinking that brown tack is more appropriate than black.

The problem is that i no longer have a straight cut showing saddle. I have either a black dressage saddle or a brown GP. Which would be more correct to use? I am more comfortable riding in my dressage saddle and it will obviously show off her shoulder more but will it matter that it is black, or that i will have to use a dressage girth?

So my question is black dressage saddle and black dressage weymouth bridle, or brown GP saddle with brown traditional hunter style weymouth bridle?

I would personally go for the brown style, as long as its dark brown! LOL. You should wear a nice tweed jacket and the horse should have a coloured browband. Enjoy and post pictures! :)

Thanks Laura. Yes its a dark havanna brown. I am proud to say i can still fit into all my old showing clothes 12 years on so i'm ok for that side of things and i still have my lovely coloured browband that will hopefully fit Lexi too. :)

O now that is a toughie as, like you say, brown is more correct, but you'd be after the straighter cut saddle.

I'd probably use your GP on the grounds that dressage saddles aren't to everyone's taste and if you get a ride judge who hates them it might not go in your favour. At least if you use your GP the judge won't be moaning about how uncomfortable your tack is. And then obviously your brown bridle.

What colour is your browband. I'm obsessed with coloured browbands. I love them :)

Hi Jess. My old browband that i used to use is a combination of navy, white and a blue/green tartan but i was really naughty and bought a new one which is by showquest and is navy, light blue and silver and rather blingy. I also bought a navy tie with light blue spots to match. Oops.
