Correct tack for showing?

Is it acceptable in showing (specifically working hunter) to put a poll guard under the headpiece of a bridle?

I've not found many nice grackle bridles with good reviews and the one I did that had a comfort headpiece was £150, the other was from Shires and had a traditional headpiece which I hate - would it be frowned upon if I put a discreet poll guard underneath e.g.

The FSS leather headpiece
or
The WOW Kinda headpiece

A full poll guard would be a bit odd. But you can get gel guards which would be almost completely discreet. To be honest I'm not sure anyone would notice it was different from a comfort headpiece.
