Correct wear for lead rein show class??

I am taking my little boy to a few shows this year compete in lead rein classes on my Welsh Sec. A. Does anyone know what is correct wear for a boy, 6 years old? How should the pony be led? (usually I lead from a headcollar over the pony's bridle, but that wouldn't look very tidy)
 
You use a snaffle bridle and a coupling and leadrein. You should be able to lead the pony without actually having to make contact with the bit. Watch the pros!!! So you need to make sure the pony is used to word commands muttered under the breath!!

M&M means plain bridle, hacking jacket and no button hole or loud browband. If just leading rein you can use show jacket and bright browband and buttonhole!

Leading you hold the lead rein loose- as i said watch the others! Its diff to describe!

But just go and have a good time, they all get a rosette in lead rein!! And look and learn!

- Tweed jacket
- Up-to-standard hat (navy velvet preferably)
- Beige or Canary Jodhpurs
- Brown Jodhpur boots
- Shirt and tie

Leadreins must be attached to the noseband, and not the bit, but I don't know much more on that front sorry.
 
A friend has started doing lead rein M & M with her daughter. The rules are a mystery sometimes. Every judge seems to interprete them differently. The lead rein should be attached to the noseband, and should always be loose so the judge can see it is the child controlling the pony not the leader. Last weekend my friend was beaten in a best turned out M & M by a child in black jacket, with fancy button hole, bows in hair etc, yet we always understood the correct thing was hacking jacket.
Good luck, and remember sometimes you will have to grit your teeth and remind yourself that the judge is always right!
