Hi everyone, just after a little bit of supplement advice please! I did try the search engine but I think I've just confused myself more

I'll try to keep it short and sweet and not babble too much - will get straight to the point ;)
Without Cortaflex my lad is very stiff and slow moving, as well as multiple vet visits to try and help him, they advised a joint supplement such as cortaflex several years ago - and although the standard cortaflex improved him very slightly, when we tried the HA it changed him into a completely different horse. He suddenly had a spring in his step, was running round the field with his friends and generally was a lot more flexible and happier. He's been on it for a couple of years now and though it's not exactly affordable, it's been okay until quite recently, as due to his various illnesses requiring expensive medication the cortaflex HA is becoming a bit of an big expense to pay for on top of everything else and we've had to drop him back to the standard just to keep him ticking over, but it's nowhere near as affective as the HA was so I'm after a cortaflex HA alternative - if there is one!

Obviously the c.HA is a lot stronger than standard (and i think i remember reading in one of the threads i searched earlier that the standard is to prevent joint issues and the HA to help existing ones, which would mean that we were kinda wasting our money if that was correct!), so I was wondering if there are any strong joint supplements out there - that are cheaper than cortaflex!

Names I remember are NAF's Superflex, Equiflex & Pernamax tablets, has anyone tried these? Do you think they'd be any good to him?
Thanks in advance for any help or extra recommendations x

My 24 yr old Tb who can be very stiff used to be on Cortaflex HA but like you I was finding it rather exoensive. I was recommended Suppleaze Gold made by Aviform. He actually seems to be better on this than he was on the cortaflex - and it is significantly cheaper too :) Especially as they seem to almost always have a 2 for the price of three offer when I need to order some!

Have you tried other "acids"?

What about ACV?

Only saying as have had YEARS of experience with "joint supplements" being just placebo for the owner and a pain for the horse...

P.s. HA is THE best thin for joint pain - cortaflex is better for cartilage damage.. better off finding out what disease your horse has first before ploughing the dough with te old miracle dust... :)

In any case, if your horse has a mineral imbalance, no matter how much cortaflex you pump in, he may be able to absorb it due to high levels of vit a or iron etc... wasting your money if you dont know the make-up of your horse to be quite honest... just my experience - I have been a very wasteful owner in the past - I don't do nothing nowadays unless I do a blood test or feed analysis.
