Hi guys. We have administered to my lovely senior mare a series of Adequan injections, which have apparently had good effect on her. We are now back on our joint supplement. Several people (vets, physios, instructors) have recommended the Cortaflex, but were they referring to the plain Cortaflex or the Cortaflex HA (which is quite expensive). Which one are you using? Is the Cortaflex HA more effective? Are you pleased with it?

My mare had the Adequan injections too a while ago now. They helped her until this year when she seemed stiff. She is now on Synequin which is recommended by my Vets and has worked wonders for her. Its ingredients are pure unlike some of the others on the market. Its not the cheapest on the market but once past the loading dose works out fairly reasonable. She's been amazing since on it last October, like the horse I knew 8yrs ago, shes now 18.

I have no experience with Adequan injections but have used Cortaflex a lot in the past and was very impressed with the results. I believe that the standard cortaflex (green top) is to prevent any problems, and the HA is for existing issues, but may be wrong.
I originally used the standard cortaflex for my very stiff gelding, and saw a slight improvement but nothing huge so started to look for alternatives. I then spoke to Equine America at a show who recommended the HA, I gritted my teeth and tried it - and couldn't believe the difference in him. Within a few weeks his movement had massively improved, he was forward in his work and running about in the fields again, and seemed a lot happier in himself. It was very expensive, I did try going back to the standard cortaflex but he stiffened up again quickly so stuck with the HA. It certainly worked for him, but I've only tried one horse on it so may have just been lucky! x

I use the HA liquid Cortaflex version for the hyaluronic acid and ASU elements, as my horse has an active inflammatory condition to manage. It works well for this. Fed at high level dose during competition season, reduced to maintenance level now. I've tried both versions of the human Cortaflex on myself and with a stiff hip I also do better when taking the HA version. I am however going to try my horse on the Equimins Superjoint HA as a comparison as the formulation looks very similar.
