How soon after injecting the joint should you know if this has worked or not? Horse was injected into coffin joint a week ago and still looks lame to me. If it hasn't worked, what is the next thing to try?

I'm sure I've read that it should take three to four days, Do you know the cause of lamness? Mine has been lame for 3 months, diagnosed with navicular syndrome ( heel pain!) He now has egg bar shoes on and its made a huge difference. He will have these on for the next 3 shoeings, if he's still lame (only graded 1/10) I will get the vet to try corticosteriod.
I think trial and error is the only way to go for heel pain.

My mare also has DJD of the coffin joint and she also had the steroid injection straight into the joint, she was sore for about 5 days. Just before she had the injection she had lateral extension shoes put on (hind foot thats bad) and the improvement was amazing.I personaly think the shoes are what made the difference especially as that was all about 19 mths ago now (still has these shoes), and we are still going really well. She`s also on cortaflex.

I was told at the time that they can do a operation and scrap all the bits out (if that makes sense), to clean the joint! can`t for the life of me remember what it was called, but my mare could not have it done as she was to bad and they thought that it would make her worse not better!

Forgot to put that my vet said to give my mare 5 days off after having the injection, to then start bringing her back into work, he said that i would know if it had worked as she would feel and look a lot better. He did say that it either works or it doesn`t. But i`m sure your vet would have told you that.

Hiya

I haven't noticed any difference with mine yet -injected last Thurs. My vet said could take 2 to 6 weeks to work - if it hadn't helped by 6 weeks then it wasn't going to. Fingers crossed for you, hope you see some improvement - sounds like its still quite early days.
