anyone heard of this? i've just been told my horse most likely has a neurological problem causing hind lameness. the vet has mentioned they can sometimes give cortisone injections that can sometimes help? anyone tried this? did it work?

Hi, yes, my boy had these injections in the base of his neck last year. I was worried about them to start with but I called round a good number of vets to ask their opinions before I went ahead and they were all very positive about them. Sadly, they didn't work for my boy and I have had to claim Lou and he is happy just mooching round the field, but a lot of the vets said they had had grand prix horses that were still competing after having the injections. Hope that helps. X x

what do they do though? do they relax the nerves? he doesnt respond to bute so the vet suggested injections as a last chance at a ridden career. if they dont work i am considering having him pts. he's only 7.

It is used to reduce inflammation and therefore relieve pain and subsequent lameness. It is not good to use for the long term as it can soften cartilage, however if it works, it s incredibly effective and can lengthen your horses ridden career by quite a bit. good luck, it's not a nice situation to be in but you should certainly try it x
