How long do they last, and if a horse has had them, would this make flexion tests in a vetting null and void if within the duration of time that they can 'help' a horse. Will a vet perform a vetting (basic) if a horse has had injections within 28 days? Thanks

I think it depends on how the horse takes to the injection as to if or how long it lasts. My last boy had one for a chipped nav bone and it was still working after a year. I asked my vet how long it would last and she said it could be anything from 2months to 2 years.

Agree with the above post - the time they last is variable and my vet also said there were different levels/strengths so usually start off with less strong one to see how it goes. As for vetting I'm not sure whether you are telling the vet it has been done, in which case I can't imagine they can say if horse is fully sound. If you are buying, unless the seller discloses the fact to you or your vet, I'm not sure if it would be apparent on a vetting (unless xrays taken). I had a 15year-old pony fully vetted, with not a single thing wrong and yet within 2 months of very light work, he became lame in knee (bone chips). I'd had blood tested for bute, which was negative but when I found about this type of injection several months later, I had a suspicion that he may have had it before and it had worn off, especially as I had a couple of doubts over his performance jumping and his background in a riding school, before the person I bought him from. I know it could have just been bad luck but as I lost all my money on him (retired) I can't help feeling a bit cheated.
