As it says, would cosmetic scars put you off going to view a horse?

Obviously not acceptable for show horses, but something that although unsightly has absolutely no detrimental effect on the way of going or health of the horse, AND is reflected in the asking price.

Seriously hacked off here. I advertise a horse as "unsuitable for showing due to cosmetic scar" have people come to see her and then say "oh but that scar will ruin her chances in the show ring! "

Oh, and it isn't in black and white in the ad and I didn't really make a point of telling you on the phone and sending pictures?

This isn't pretty but you get used to it and it is hidden under a noseband anyway. Would it put you off?

This is the rest of the (fat) horse, bad photo, not one I use for ads.

It depends how they got it tbh, it could be an indication of charecter or bad handleing or all sorts of thing. Also where it is, if it could pose issues later. But if its all innocent and normal tissue wouldn't put me off in the slightest. Our boys are covered in scars and odd lumps! Barnaby was even bought with a scarcoid, was on his belly and not an agessive type so we got an amazing horse who worked for 12years for us really cheap.

My horse has a whopper of a scar on her chest. At some point she has been wounded down to the bone and it's healed quite lumpy.

The dealer didn't mention it in the ad, but then she was sold as a hunter/eventer so it made no difference to me.

Of course I noticed it as soon as I met her, but it didn't put me off as it didn't affect her usefulness.

Can't believe people are being stupid enough to miss that in your ad though.

Then again I can believe it...

Jojo x

It may or may not bother me depenidng on where it was and just how disfiguring it was. If you state it is there in the ad and then they use it as a reason not to buy it is ridiculous. Perhaps they are just using it as a polite excuse because they decided against the horse?

Best of luck to you with the sale and the right person will come along. Horse market is tough here atm so maybe it is where you are too and it may take a bit longer.

It wouldn't put me off unless I was specifically looking for a show pony... but then, I wouldn't have answered your ad, as you clearly stated she has a blemish.

I really wish people would READ the ad you have taken time to write out!

Wouldn't put me off, my old boy had a V shaped scar across his 1/4s - which according to his last owner (friend, who bought him off her friend) happened on the boat when he was brought over from Holland. He could still jump the moon (if I were brave enough) and still caused my trainer to put a silly price tag on his head, but he was my boy and the love of my life :-)

if it is purely cosmetic and would not stop the horse performing at what I want then no. I would, however need to know how it got it though because I wouldn't like to get caught out by the insurance aspect

Don't have a problem with it as such if the horse is advertised at an according price (which yours is) BUT I'd proably not ring as although it doesn't bother me I would imagine it would bother a lot of purchasers should I need to sell the horse.

My lad had a small scar on his shoulder when I got him (only visible when clipped) but the seller had pics of the cut he had and good explanation.

To be honest I'd be more bothered if scars were on legs when I viewed than on face
