Hi All,
I thought this might be the best place to ask your thoughts/recommendations for a good but cost effective broad spectrum vits/mins powder supplement or balancer?

Currently all 7 are on the below:
-1/2 stubbs scoop Honeychop Senior Chaff
-1/4 scoop fibre cubes (they like a bit of crunch to their feed🙈)
-1/2 scoop of soaked veteran vitality (not huge fans of speedibeet which I previously tried)
-RDA of saracens stamm 30

I think I am happy to keep the chaff/cubes/mash as their base but I would like to see if there's an alternative for the stamm 30.
I have 2 with poor feet so potentially looking for something that might improve this. But otherwise all are in good condition, have ad lib hay, and the horses in work have good energy for the work they are in.
Ive read a bit about oily herbs and wonder if I might try something alongside vita/mins. Are they British Showjumping/dressage legal?

Thanks in advance if anyone can point me in the right direction to have a look into X

When I had a riding school I used NAF General Purpose Supplement as a basic vitamin and mineral source for all the horses and ponies and just added anything specific that individual horses needed as I found it the most cost effective way to feed. They all looked really well on it.

I have started using Dodson and horrell vits and mins daily for 3 of mine that only need a handful of chaff. It’s not expensive and is on the list of recommended vits and mins from Clare Macleod nutritionist. My farrier commented that their hooves had improved so I am pleased with it .

I used to is progressive earth budget balancer, but recently swapped to Equimins as one of mine had issues with WLD and abscesses so thought I’d try something more comprehensive. It’s a good spec for the price. Not the cheapest, but far better levels of ingredients than some out there

I use Equivite, the big 15kg tubs which is you shop about is usually about £90. I use for my 5 and it lasts around 5/6 weeks

ETA swapped from Equimins, on advice if my nutritionist who says they are very similar levels of everything

Veteran Vitality is a balanced feed so if fed at recommended amounts you wouldn't need to add a balancer or vit/min supplement.

Depending on the size of your horses and how much work they are in you could just up the amount of Veteran Vitality you feed and cut out everything else.

For a 500kg horse in light work they only need 3/4 scoop of Veteran Vitality to get everything they need. Obviously if your horses are bigger or in more work then it may not be a viable option. The recommended amounts are on the Allen and Page website or on the back of the feed bag.

If you can't feed Veteran Vitality at the recommend amount it would still be providing some vits and minerals so you may not need to feed a balancer or supplement at the full amount which would make it cheaper. You'd probably need a nutritionist to advice you on amounts - most feed companies offer free advice which you could utilise.

I used equities or when feed mark used to do BOGOF offers I would buy 20kg sack of benefit (they do a no iron one) and end up with 40kg for a alright price. Just look for where you can buy in bulk. I have 6 and did, when you have that many you the use by dates are normally long enough to last. I would transfer it into an airtight container and it would last.

Thank you for your replies. I currently only feed 1/4 dry scoop veteran vitality per horse, so currently not getting enough out of this. I could look to increase this but I'm not sure that 2 of them would bother to finish their feeds at a larger volume and can only feed twice a day due to logistics. I will pop Allen and Page a message though as this could be useful.

I am looking at something like equivite, codlivine (possibly the joint one for the extras), horse herbs vits/mins or one cup and am wondering with the veteran vitality if I might not have to feed it at full ration...
