Apologies for the strictly-not-horses question, but I know a lot of horse owners also have dogs so thought this would be a good place to ask!

I have been asked by someone who sometimes pays me to do her horses for her, and who is currently in hospital, if I can help look her two dogs a few times a week. She asked what the charge would be and I don’t really know what a fair price is.

The visit would be for an hour (not including time spent driving there and back). I would be giving the dogs their food and a few treats, letting them out in the garden and taking them for a walk. It would be a round trip of 25 miles for me.

What would you charge (or what price would you pay for this to be done?) Any input appreciated!

We pay £14 for a dog walk for one dog. £23 for 2 (one is elderly so doesn’t really walk now so we just pay for one walk and the plays with the other in the garden!) but that is Herefordshire and quite cheap! My friend pays £50 a visit for her 2 dogs in Cambridgeshire!

We also pay ours £50 for 24hrs if she is staying over and house sitting for us, if we go on holiday etc which obviously includes walks. Hope that helps x

I’m in London and some of my dog walker/daycare/sitter’s pricing is:
£42 walk and all day daycare
£22 1 hour solo walk
£18 sitting per hour, min. 3 hours
£20 1 hour puppy visit

They obviously involve much shorter journeys than you mention.

Thank you! That’s really helpful. I’m Cambridgeshire like your friend (although suspect I might be at the ‘poorer’ end as I’m on the Lincs border rather than near Cambridge!)

Consider if you will be insured if she is paying you. You also need to charge mileage for your car as well as the time you are doing the dogs.
Thank you, I’m not insured as I don’t normally do this so was going to get a feel for what dog sitters/walkers charge then go for something a bit below it!
