Hi,

I know people ask this all the time but i can't seem to find the forum search box anymore..... How much do people think is normal/acceptable to pay for a horse share?

I have seen an advert for a horse share 2/3 days a week (not available sundays), the horse and the facilities sound good on paper but it is £15 for each of the nominated days. I don't know about stable duties, there was no mention of these in the ad.

Also the horse has some stiffness and apparently needs warming up a lot before any schooling which is all i would be able to do in the winter evenings.

Am i just being too picky in thinking this sounds like quite a lot for a share? Do people think this sounds an acceptable deal?

Thanks

My friend pays £80 a month for 3 days a week (including one weekend day) and does stable duties on her days as well. I think that's quite low though.

When I advertised for a sharer I put it at £25 a week for 3 days inc. one weekend day, plus stable duties on those days (or they paid the yard to do him if they couldn't and I wasn't able to cover). However the sharer's mum drove me nuts and I stopped it all within a week and put him out on loan instead!

It sounds about average, to be honest, maybe the high end of average but then if the facilities are good and the horse is a decent one, it may be worth it.

My best friend told me about a share offered at her RS, that was £50 a week for 2 days a week, 1-2 hours' riding each day !! Now THAT is expensive !

Sounds expensive to me too, unless the horse is being rented out as part of the business.

I know some people on here pay a huge amount to be a sharer; back in my day the sharer normally paid for the shoes and that was it, but I guess things have moved on since then.

Well i am beginning a share with my girl, initially i was going to charge 90pounds a month for 3days, but i have now got someone who wants two week days, which is absolutely fab for me, as weekends are my time off work, so i am now charging 15pounds a week for said sharer to do all duties needed two days a week, she can ride and have lessons etc whatever really, just take good care of my girl those days, which i know she will

I was going to charge more if it was one weekend day and one week day as most people may want, i was going to charge 20pounds in that instance a week, but lucky for me, sharer only wants week days

God trundle that is bloody expensive, its excessive in fact
i could not dream of over charging like that, i have charged a very fair price imo, i could probably have charged a fraction more, but i didnt want to mess around, i wanted a set simple figure which was pretty accurate in terms of cost, and my girl is living out this winter so should be cheaper than last year

thanks for the replies, sounds like it might be on the high end of average as stated.

I think I am just worried that if the horse has arthritis there is the possiblity of the arthritis getting really bad so I can't actually ride but still have to pay - something that goes with owning your own horse I know but not my idea of an ideal horse share.

picky picky!

before i bought izzy i was going to do a horse share 3/4 days a week £10 a week and a bit etc. for shoes i also know someone that payes £60 a month for a 10.3 pony 21years old but gets weekly lessons for her 3 kids. However i am one of those people that see horses advertised for £25 a week and think thats silly money, i tried to put my littleone up for share for £5 a week and the sharer could do as much or little as they liked but i had no takers.
